The United States of America is divided into 50 states and each state has its National Guard. The National Guard is primarily divided into two categories: the Army National Guard and Air National Guard. The role of the National Guard in the United States is twofold: First, it is a national force serving the nation in times of crisis or war, and secondly, it is the power of the state under the control of the governor, ready to assist citizens in times of national crisis or disaster.

Almost all positions within the National Guard are part-time as members should serve a weekend a month and are trained for only two weeks in a year. Also, members can take advantage of two lives as full-time civilian, while obtaining the benefits of joining the military, which has excellent benefits, like lifting and school tuition, the improving the skills of career and a regular salary. In return, they must be prepared to serve the country when the need arises. Members of the National Guard serve the people closest to them and society as a whole.

Major Tasks

The first duty of the Air National Guard and Army National Guard to help protect people in times of crisis, and serving the country in case of emergency. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, storms or floods, and disturbances such as communal riots are some emergencies where the National Guard is expected to come to the aid of the population.

The Air National Guard is responsible for air defense of the nation. He also serves as a backup force to the regular U.S. Air Force. A person who wants to register for the Air National Guard must meet certain academic and nonacademic constraints as in the age group 17-34 years, with a high school diploma or equivalent, be free major violations of the laws, are free of illegal drug use, etc., to be eligible.

Otherwise, he or she must pass a fitness test and clearly the military professional aptitude test battery (ASVAB). Once done, a recruit can choose a career interest and reserve a place before the start of the training program. On Career Options

The state and the federal government is at the head of the Army National Guard. Career opportunities in the Army National Guard can be mainly classified into three sections - combat, combat support and combat service. Fighting could still be classified as infantry, armor, artillery, aviation and air defense, while supporting the fight can be subdivided into chemical engineering, military police, signal, military intelligence and civil affairs, logistics support the fight can be grouped into sub-funds, personnel, public affairs, maintain and transport.
