Kayak your way around Sanibel and experience pure happiness Tired of that journey on the highway to get to work? Do not blame you. Sitting in traffic is never fun. So let your thoughts drift.
Instead of cars and traffic and bad weather, this picture:
You're on a different kind of "track", no traffic, blue skies, birds overhead, manatees swimming by your side, sun on your face and arms. No horns, different landscapes along the route, no tolls, not watch the needle drop gas tank.
Where are you?
You are on the Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail. You're in a kayak. You are alone with your thoughts, or perhaps accompanied by their relatives in kayaks nearby. You are at peace.
According to Lee County Parks and Recreation Department, the Calusa Blueway is truly unique.
It is a 190-mile marked canoe and kayak trail that winds through the coastal waters of Lee County and inland tributaries.
Many people are familiar with the beaches of southwest Florida's Gulf Coast, often natural beaches located on barrier islands.
Far fewer people are aware of what is "hiding" behind the island. Here, even more isolated is a maze of mangroves. These saltwater-tolerant trees and wildlife that live there to create an eco-environment similar to the Pantanal in Brazil than any inland destination.
Now you can experience this magic maze and hidden on the Calusa Blueway. The Blueway will lead you through the shallow waters that will keep you safe paddling and other remote places motorboats travel. The absence of boat engines and revelers help make the Blueway not only beautiful and safe, but also quiet. This path will bring water closer to nature, where you'll be able to roseate spoonbills feed at dawn, schools of silver fish in shades running around your boat and manatees grazing on vegetation Navy.
And, unlike most U.S. and Canadian trails for children, the Grand Calusa Blueway is marked by signs. Additional safety precautions are provided with global positioning system coordinates on the Lee County Park Web site. To further enhance your browsing experience, free maps are available at various locations - outfitters, marinas, retail sites, parks, ramps, office buildings, chambers of commerce, airports, centers reception, etc.
Calusa Blueway Paddling The Great Trail was created to help people like you experience the natural magic of Lee County.
This is a great way to spend spring break, and you're lucky.
Imagine this:
At the end of a day of boating wonderful, you're headed to your condo on Sanibel Island.
The windows are open, the last rays of sunshine fill the rooms, ceiling fans whirl above your head. A bathroom and large master host with a huge shower invites you to refresh. This was a great day and night can be even better.
