County Marquees

County MarqueesNeed help understanding how duchies, counties work?

I am a bit confused about how the Duke, Count thing works. I know what they are, but thats about it. I always thought that the affected counties where dukes and counts when given cities and counties in small counties and their functions has been Earls collecting taxes in their cities and counties get their third penny on it, Dukes would collect the taxes of the Counts of all cities within their county, to take their cut, then give the king his cup ect .. but as I read, I learned that where cities Dukes (Duke of York), so that distorted my whole veiw of how it works. So I wondered, just one example: If a person was the Duke of Wales and shortly after King made his son the Prince of Wales Prince also became the Duke of Wales? If not, what role would also be Princes traditional. So essentially my question is what are the exact functions of dukes, earls, counts, Marquees pls explain what territories they get there.

It used to be a case of Medievil Britain that when monrach actually had the power he could for example be Newcastle if there was a problem that needed urgent attention Torquay then they would counts and things like that. two titles most used by the princes are male Prince of Wales and Duke of York. the title of Prince of Wales was Firsty used in the late 1200's and was bestoed the future Edward II and was the first heir to the throne to be known as Prince of Wales. was made because of a Welsh prince Llywelyn ab Gruffudd called laughter and EXCLUDE to THID but he had a brother called Dafydd. Duke of York has always been generally so monarch's second son Prince Andrew is the second son of QE2 when he was Duke of York's father was also queen's second son and was also Duke of York was the grandfather Queens King George V and was also the second son and the Duke of York King Jacques II was also the second son of King Charles I

Dukes, Marquis, Earls, Viscounts and Barons (in that order) are generally not land as such today. The only exceptions are the duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, held by the Queen and the Prince of Wales, respectively.

Duke, which comes from the Latin dux, meaning leader, was imported to the islands and is merely a title of honor in many ways. Names that could be taken after a large counties or regions, but it's just that, a name, no sovereign powers or something like that.

Earl was a title of honor and the Scandinavian "eorl" as "adviser". If have gathered, it was perhaps a landlord-tenant situation, simply because the land belonging noble regardless of its title.

Titles can be created with the same name, with the ranks different title, even of the same name and title. There are two counties in March (this was long territorial and is a special case), but generally differentiation modifiers are added for disambiguating such peers.

* * If someone has been made Duke of Wales (doubtful), the Prince of Wales would not automatically Duke of Wales. These would be separate titles. There was a duke of Ireland (only a title of nobility), while the King of England at the time ruled as Lord of Ireland, as another example.

On the mainland, most of the titles mentioned have been or could be territorial. There were sovereign duchies ruled by dukes in Germany until 1918, and the principalities and many other kinds of states.

Marquis (equal to Marquis) should also be found, the decision margraviats, more rare towards the end of most of these monarchies in 1918. The German Emperor and emperor of Austria had at the time that this title represents a part of their territories.

There was, of course, also figures (equal to Earls) who ruled counties, most of which ended after 1806, when the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved. Man.
