Descente SkiThe history of skiing in Les Arcs

ski resorts are very clearly a creation for the more adventurous souls who want to discover another kind of sport that is both extreme and daring. However, when it comes to skiing, extreme term does not usually follow as it became much more than just sport. In the past, skiing is the only means of transportation for the pre-historic Nordic Sami and mainly used for hunting and the use of military technology.

These days of skiing is considered a fun holiday, most families and young children can benefit too. It is therefore not surprising that one of the most popular destinations is of course Les Arcs in France. The three valleys in France have long had a reputation for offering something for everyone at all levels, however, skiing holidays in Les Arcs have been dubbed as the mega resorts of the French. With five ski fields are optimal for people looking for a descent.

Ski holidays in Les Arcs also offer 106 races, over 200 km of descent, 54 lifts and a varied and substantial number of runway. Les Arcs offers not only a great variety of skiing but also something for people who are interested in the sites and surroundings of the resort. Also available are the modernist avant-garde, which is unique in Les Arcs. The five areas are Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950, Bourg Saint Maurice and Arc 2000.

The 1600 Arc is the smallest or lowest stations that was the first built in 1968. It is now 30 stores, hotels and meeting rooms to offer its customers. Arc 1800 is the industry's highest and largest, which has four villages whose Charvet, Villards Charmettoger and Chantel. It contains nearly 100 stores, hotels, two cinemas and entertainment much more. Arc 1950 is a new development by a Canadian manufacturer Intrawest. It contains many varied restaurants for a mountain.

Arc 2000 is directly linked to Arc 1950 by a free Gondola. It also has a large selection of shops and cinemas for guests. All areas have shuttles, links railways, ski lifts and gondolas express. Beginners can take lessons with the ESF ski school, where they will learn to make parallel turns right from the start using short skis, and then possibly using longer skis.

Les Arcs has historically been built to preserve the natural environment and the conservation area. This was based on three principles, which are based on respect for nature and environment of the region, using local materials and keep the use of self-existing mountain without reproducing. The idea was to build a ski resort that would both inspire and entertain visitors, without compromising its original state.

It was also designed to assess and to disregard the mountainous regions, without the buildings facing each other. The buildings were built entirely open plan and marked a new design for style and design of modern houses. During the summer it has become a popular destination for mountain biking. So not only can people enjoy a skiing holiday in Les Arcs, they can also give holiday mountain biking a go too.
