Hummel ClothingAn itinerary of Sicily

Our Sicilian itinerary includes Palermo, the pageantry of Easter Enna, Ragusa, the temples of Agrigento, and do not miss the majestic volcano Mt Etna. Our bases have been travel Palermo, where we had the exquisite Hotel Villa Igea, Enna at peace and relax completely and Gussio Villa Ragusa, the splendid Villa Carlotta. History, food, people, and the natural splendor of this island are unforgettable.

We begin our adventure in Palermo, one of those cities that breathes vitality and Villa Igea is an oasis in the middle of it. With a period villa, ocean views, a garden more fragrant than any I've ever felt and pool with its own "ruins" and overlooking the sea, how could you go wrong?

There are so many sites in Palermo, you could spend a week here, but if you only have one day, go to the market in Palermo is one of those memories that stay with you. This is not only the site and smell of so much fresh produce - that's the sound of merchants selling their wares, shouting in dialect to the most astute foreign include only based on what the merchant remains up to you.

Easter week is a magical time to visit Sicily. The flowers are in bloom. The temperature is warm but not unbearably hot. For the feast of Holy Thursday, and indeed the entire week of Easter, there is no better base than Enna, and no better hotel Villa Gussio. The pool, spa, restaurant and general atmosphere of Sicily a genuine warmth and hospitality, it is an ideal and peaceful base for exploring the city and the surrounding panorama.

More importantly, the traditions of Sicily, and especially the city of Enna, are rooted in centuries of pageantry and experience for tourists unfamiliar with the cultural splendor, leave frozen for some time. Giovedi Santo (Holy Thursday) Enna is particularly stirring. Three thousand participants from different churches in the province, calling in suits with hoods, and in March in silence and out of churches in the street to the little side street. Towards the end of the evening, a statue of Jesus removed from the cross, is placed in a glass coffin, gold leaf and the church on top of huge planks of wood carried by 80 men, walking in rhythm to the rocking drone lamenting a brass ensemble.

Ragusa is an ideal location for discovering the ancient city of Siracusa, Piazza Amerina, and the temples of Agrigento, Ragusa, let alone himself. For us, the hotel was perfect, without a doubt, the Villa Carlotta. Besides the beautiful pool and lovely rooms, which blend a tour of the century structure with modern amenities, stylish and comfortable, the food is out of this world. Let's start with breakfast - yes, there are healthy, homemade yogurt and fresh preserves - but, I mean sweet ricotta-filled pastry that literally melts as you put on your tongue. Sicily may be famous for its pastries, but Villa Carlotta is the best place to eat. Dinner included an authentic Sicilian cuisine, but with none of the heavy foods that leave you barely able to move away from the table. Well, except for the magnificent location and atmosphere for the food.

Ragusa, Piazza Amerina, and Syracuse, all easy day trips from Villa Carlotta worth the detour. Each characteristic, and each urging you to wander to see what's around the next Vicolo or Piazza. But the visit that is irresistible, is certainly the Temples in Agrigento. They are so big in size and structure, having withstood the test of centuries and in such a picturesque setting, often with a backdrop of modern civilization, to come to this part of Sicily and does not Seeing is unthinkable.

It is not possible to write a route Sicily without the inclusion of mighty Mt. Etna. It can be seen from almost anywhere on the island.
