Do I wear underwear under my bike shorts padded? A friend gave me a pair of bike shorts with padding in the butt ... My wife says I should not wear underwear, sports underwear my SUPE-duper synthetic breathable Nike men under the shorts. I say this goes against everything that my teacher junior high PE ever told us. Who is right?
Your wife. Ask any rider and they will say: "No underwear under the shorts - never."
The shorts are designed so that you do not wear anything underneath. The underwear will make things worse by rubbing / friction, etc. .. I know it may feel funny at first, but once you get used to it, it seems quite normal.
you.
Underwear No, you do not wear shorts under. You can train a world of pain (and other friction) by adding a layer that can bunch up as you drive.
The buffer - called a chamois - is designed to pad you where you need it.
Others have already said no, but I will NOT add me to that list. A bit of talcum powder may be acceptable (but only a little). Otherwise, unless you enjoy having a swamp of a fork, you should never, never let anything come between the skin and buff.
Listen to your wife, she knows whereof she speaks. In 37 years of cycling I have never worn underwear under shorts
You wife is correct, you do not want to wear something under your shorts. Shorts will pack up seams and cause problems. They will also reduce the cooling effect provided by the shorts.
