Pet SweatersStart a pet photography business

Everyone seems to have a glimpse of his favorite pet. Take a look in the family photo album and you will probably find a pet with more than one shot. Face it, the animals often become extended family members and are well loved and cherished too. This is why many pet owners are now taking the initiative to get their pets photographed professional. Why not become premier pet photographer in your area?

Plan

You may not need to develop a photography studio to start. You can watch up to the idea of making home visits. The animal may be more relaxed because of the familiarity of home decor and home town may establish a stronger link to the family at the resulting photograph.

Remember to include accessories whenever possible. This could be something as simple as their favorite squeaky toy or as elaborate as a pet sweater and an umbrella. Learn as much as you can about the personality of the animal - and the owner of the animal. If an owner may not mind a tutu on their pet, it can be an incredible offense to another owner of the animal. Offer to take pictures of the animal with the owner in the package.

Always add to your portfolio, even if it means taking a few photos for free to get the portfolio started. You can also consider developing an online website that shows some of your stars in all their glory.

Remember a pet photographer will not just take pictures of dogs and cats. You might find yourself up close and personal with a horse, a pig or monkey Guinea. You might even find exotic animals or fish that need your special photographic skills.

You can start the process with exceptional skills in photography or you may be a novice who is dedicated to education on the subject. Your fees will depend largely on your skills, equipment available and how you feel about the animals.

Funds

Each company will need seed money. In the case of photography for pets that you might consider buying the best camera possible that your budget allows. Ask around or do research. Try to make sure that your choice camera can expand based on the potential for growth. In other words make sure that you can attach the camera to a tripod and make sure the camera works well for indoor and outdoor lighting.

The work to the purchase of additional equipment as funds allow. Take advantage of the synergy - working with companies that can provide sales tools such as key chains, magnets, calendars, folders and even puzzles that include pets in your photo. You can find there are many customers who want more than just a 8x10 framed. Using the expertise of others, you can offer services could not otherwise offer.

Market

Take your idea for pet owners. This could be done through a kennel club, an association of a specific breed of animal, or even a 4-H show or fair.

Volunteer to take pictures at an exhibition company, and then make prints available for sale. This can be an excellent first step in introducing yourself and your skills to the public.

Use both online and offline marketing strategies. Develop a website, but get out and meet people face to face. Visit your local veterinary and leave your business card. If they have a bulletin board and allow it, place a small sign indicating what you do and include photos.

Your site should include multiple photos and testimonials to help others imagine what it would be like to have pictures of their pet to remember and share for years to come.
