Well the main reason is the rarity. Like all other tissues and son, comes in a variety of cashmere quality. The best comes from the hand of goat hair combed from Kashmir goats in Mongolia and raised in the border areas of Pakistan and China.
These rugged and beautiful animals have to survive some of the coldest weather of nature. Consequently, nature has provided them with a super thin and sweet "fluff" that acts as insulation, covered with a layer of longer hair known side as hair care. "It's down to who is ultimately son spun or woven into a fabric of cashmere.
Harvesting the hair is not a simple task. For starters, they are hand-combed, and only when the goats are moved and that occurs only once a year. Combing of the goat is an art in itself. The idea is just to remove the fluff from the fine and not the coarser layer above. This little work can last as long as three days a goat!
And you know how "wool" they get from a goat? They get a huge 150 grams or less than 5.5 ounces. Compare that to a sheep, according to race, can produce 100-300 pounds of wool a year. On a worldwide each year about 6.5 tons of cashmere is harvested. It is a drop in the ocean when you consider the fabric thousands of tons of wool that is placed on the market each year.
Once the hair is harvested it must be separated, cleaned and dyed. It is then spun or woven son. This was done mainly by the Scots and the Italians known for their competence. Recently, however, China began in the law and is not longer in production.
So when you look at the cashmere sweaters hanging in the closet Just think of somewhere beautiful Mongolian goat standing there patiently combed themselves so you can look great. Why is it so expensive? Gosh just the ticket would be too!
